Arahabaki Yasuke accidentally broke the sacred mirror and freed Orihime. Because a calamity will befall him, his life (soul) is temporarily in Orihime's hands and soon in the hands of 3 other girls as well. He cannot be separated from the person holding his soul because he will die. When separated, the only way to revive him is by kissing (transferring life energy).
